SHIATSU THERAPY
ALICE GINGER ZAGATO
WELCOME!
WHY SHIATSU?
Many people consider Shiatsu when they experience acute or chronic pain or stress and seek to regain balance and health.
In addition to addressing symptoms, Shiatsu takes a holistic approach to health by considering the entire person and striving to promote their overall well-being. By recognizing that physical, emotional, and social factors all play a role in a person's health, Shiatsu aims to restore balance and harmony.
This integrative approach helps individuals achieve optimal health and vitality, leading to a more fulfilling and enjoyable life.
During a Shiatsu therapy session, we focus on both your symptoms and resources.
Symptoms are important signals from your body and mind that help us understand your needs better, and what needs to be transformed to help you feel better and healthier.
A Shiatsu session consists of a comfortable, effective and relaxing treatment, but it also empowers you to take control of your health and wellbeing. You have the option to embark on a journey of self-discovery, understanding your physical and mental processes step by step. Shiatsu helps you take charge of your health and wellbeing.
WHAT IS SHIATSU?
Let's start by clarifying what Shiatsu is not. It's not a massage or some mysterious technique from the Far East.
Rather, it's a comprehensive form of therapy that has been developed over centuries through trial and error.
Shiatsu works on muscles, ligaments, joints, fascia, organs, and viscera through manipulations, breathing, and training.
It also supports mental well-being by helping to eliminate stress and regulate emotions through relaxation and breathing.
Shiatsu utilizes various models, including Qi (the defining feature of living things and their connection to the environment), Tsubo (specific areas on the body where pressure is applied to relieve tension and pain), Zang Fu (the organs and their functions, including the five solid organs and six hollow organs), Kyo, Jitsu, and others, to understand the relationships between the body, mind, and environment and offer effective treatments.
Additionally, Shiatsu promotes health by identifying a person's resources and finding ways to strengthen them.
The experiences gained during treatment are then integrated into daily life.
A BIT OF HISTORY
The origins of Shiatsu can be traced back to the practical philosophies of Taoism and Buddhism when Chinese medicine began merging with Japanese physical therapy around 600 A.D.
Modern Shiatsu has evolved to incorporate physiology, anatomy, pathology, and experience-based treatments. It's now a recognized complementary therapy that encompasses a person's body, mind, and social/emotional context for overall well-being and growth.
Shiatsu treatment is a pleasurable experience that may consist of deep pressure, stretching, self-awareness, and breath regulation.
The treatment is tailored to your needs, whether they involve muscles, joints, fascia, organs, or your mental and emotional well-being. Depending on your needs, I may also support you with other methods, such as Cupping, Moxa, and GuaSha, as well as restorative training from the same tradition.
